Restoring Clarity with Cataract Surgery

Cataract is a very common age-related condition that gradually affects vision as the natural lens becomes cloudy. While cataracts cannot be avoided, they can be safely and effectively corrected through a simple surgical procedure. Consult an eye specialist to understand the condition of your eyes and the best treatment options for you.

Cataract Surgery With

Highly Advanced PHACO Machine

Are you or a loved one struggling with cloudy, blurred, or dim vision? You are likely one of the millions facing Cataracts (Motiyabind). At Raahi Netradham, we believe clear vision is a fundamental right. We bring the world’s most advanced cataract removal technique—Phacoemulsification—right here to Uttarakhand, ensuring you walk out with a brighter, clearer view of the world.

What is Phacoemulsification? (The "No-Stitch" Surgery)

Gone are the days of painful surgeries and long recovery times. Phacoemulsification (Phaco) is the gold standard in modern eye care. It is a micro-incision technique that uses ultrasound energy to safely break up the cloudy lens and remove it.

How Phacoemulsification Works

1

Micro-Incision

The surgeon makes a tiny incision (less than 2.8mm) in the eye—so small it seals itself naturally without stitches.

2

Ultrasonic Waves

A specialized probe uses gentle ultrasound waves to break the cloudy cataract into microscopic fragments.

3

Lens Implantation

A foldable Intraocular Lens (IOL) is inserted through the tiny opening and unfolds perfectly inside the eye to restore clear vision.

Why Choose Phacoemulsification?

  • ✔ 100% Blade-Free & Sutureless – Faster healing with no irritation
  • ✔ Walk-in, Walk-out Procedure – Surgery completed in under 20 minutes
  • ✔ Painless Recovery – Performed under topical anesthesia (eye drops)
  • ✔ Instant Results – Improved vision within 24 hours for most patients

SICS: The Safe, Reliable Solution for Mature Cataracts in Dehradun

At Raahi Netradham, we understand that every eye is unique. While laser and Phaco surgeries are popular, the Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) technique remains a gold standard for safety and effectiveness, especially for advanced cataracts. We are proud to offer this robust surgical technique to the people of Uttarakhand, ensuring high-quality vision restoration that is both accessible and affordable.

What is SICS (Small Incision Cataract Surgery)?

Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) is an advanced surgical technique where the cloudy lens is removed manually through a specially constructed tunnel in the eye.

Unlike older methods that required multiple stitches, SICS uses a unique self-sealing incision. This means the wound closes naturally due to internal eye pressure, usually requiring no stitches (suture-less) or just one safety suture.

It combines the safety of manual surgery with the rapid recovery benefits of modern techniques.

Is SICS Still Relevant Today?

Absolutely. In the age of lasers and robotics, SICS holds a critical place in ophthalmology, particularly in regions like Uttarakhand. Here is why SICS is often the medically preferred choice over Phacoemulsification for certain patients:

1

The Expert Choice for “Hard” Cataracts

In the Himalayan region, many patients delay treatment until the cataract becomes “mature” (very hard and white).

The SICS Advantage: Breaking a very hard cataract with ultrasound energy used in Phaco can sometimes damage the sensitive back layer of the cornea. SICS involves manually removing the lens, which puts zero heat stress on the cornea, making it safer for advanced cases.

2

Excellent Visual Outcomes

Studies have shown that for mature cataracts, the visual clarity achieved with SICS is comparable to Phacoemulsification. You receive a high-quality Intraocular Lens (IOL) and enjoy restored vision.

3

Cost-Effective Excellence

SICS relies on surgical skill rather than expensive consumable machines. This makes the procedure significantly more affordable without compromising on the quality of the lens or the safety of the surgery.

Why Choose Raahi Netradham for SICS?

  • Surgical Craftsmanship: Our surgeons—Dr. Mohit Garg, Dr. Chintan Desai, and Dr. Isha Agarwalla—are highly skilled in manual SICS and have performed thousands of procedures with precision.
  • Honest Ethical Advice: We recommend the safest procedure based on your condition, not trends. For hyper-mature cataracts, SICS is often the safer option.
  • Comprehensive Care: The same high-quality pre-operative testing and sterile operation theaters are used for SICS as for premium surgeries.
  • Affordability: In line with our RAAHI mission, SICS packages are designed to make quality vision accessible across Dehradun and surrounding hill districts.

SICS vs. Phaco: Which is Right for You?

Feature SICS (Small Incision) Phacoemulsification
Incision Size 6mm (Self-sealing tunnel) 2.2mm – 2.8mm
Technology Manual extraction Ultrasound energy
Best For Hard / Mature cataracts Early / Soft cataracts
Stitches Usually none (Self-sealing) None
Cost More economical Premium

During your consultation, our doctors will examine your eyes and recommend the safest method for your specific condition.

SURGERY PROCESS

  • A minor hole or incision will be made using the PHACO machine or blade respectively.
  • The cataract lens will be removed, and the artificial lens (IOL) will be implanted.
  • No stitches are required, as the hole or the incision is so small.
  • After surgery, a bandage will be placed over the eye for protection.
  • The bandage or patch is removed after few hours and patient is given black pair of glasses to wear for protection.
  • The surgery procedure usually takes around 10 to 12 minutes.

DID YOU KNOW?

Sometimes when the cataract is too matured and thick, doctors prefer to opt for SICS process even if the patient wants a PHACO surgery. Consult with your doctor/counsellor before the surgery and check if you are such a patient.
